Abstract :
Purpoe
To decribe two cae of neovacular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) that progreed depite a ingle intravitreal injection of pegaptanib odium (Macugen) ix week earlier.
Deign
Interventional cae report.
Method
A 62-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman with occult and minimally claic leion, repectively, each received a ingle injection of intravitreal pegaptanib.
Reult
Within ix week of an intravitreal pegaptanib injection, the choroidal neovacularization (CNV) progreed. In one eye, the chronic occult leion developed ubfoveal claic CNV. In the other eye, the claic component of the minimally claic leion tripled in ize.
Concluion
A ingle doe of intravitreal pegaptanib wa not effective in thee two patient at ix week. Thi report remind the ophthalmologit to conider obtaining a fluorecein angiogram during follow-up after an intravitreal pegaptanib injection to monitor CNV leion characteritic, particularly if the viual acuity decreae
