Abstract :
Purpoe To verify the occurrence of keratoconjunctiviti icca (KC) and human T-cell lymphotropic viru type 1 (HTLV-1) aociated uveiti (HAU) and to evaluate the immunologic tatu related to HTLV-1. Deign Cro-ectional tudy. Method Ophthalmic examination (both eye) and immunophenotyping of peripheral blood lymphocyte were performed in 207 infected aymptomatic blood donor (A), 55 control (NI), and 55 patient with HTLV-1 aociated myelopathy (HAM/TP). Examiner wa maked to patient’ erologic tatu. Reult KC wa more frequent in HAM/TP (30/55, 54.5%) than in NI and A (07/55, 12.7% and 42/207, 20.3%, repectively). Preence of lacrimal hypoecretion in KC individual wa higher in the HAM/TP group (P < .001) a compared with NI and A. HAU wa found in 1/55 (1.82%) of HAM/TP patient and 4/207 (1.93%) of HTLV-1 eropoitive donor. Higher level of activated CD4+ and CD8+ T cell were oberved in HAM/TP. Patient with HAU diplayed higher percentage of both CD4+ HLA-DR+ and CD8+HLA-DR+ when compared with NI and A without HAU. Concluion Patient with HAM/TP manifeted more ophthalmologic ymptom than aymptomatic HTLV-1–infected individual, with ignificantly higher KC and immunologic alteration. Level of activated CD8+ T cell could be ued a a prognoi marker of inflammatory dieae manifetation to follow-up A individual.
