  • Abstract
    Purpoe To report our experience with four cae of pediatric ocular acne roacea, including repone to long-term ytemic treatment. Deign Retropective interventional cae erie. Method The medical record of four conecutive cae diagnoed with pediatric ocular acne roacea over a period of 36 month were reviewed. Diagnotic criteria were meibomian gland dyfunction, blephariti, lid margin telangiectaia, punctate uperficial keratopathy, and conjunctival hyperemia with or without inferior corneal vacularization. Reult The patient, aged between four and 12, were all female with bilateral dieae. Meibomiti, blephariti, conjunctival hyperemia, and punctuate epitheliopathy wa evident in each cae. Cutaneou involvement wa een in two cae (50%), and limbal vacularization with ubepithelial or tromal infiltrate wa preent in three cae (75%). One cae howed corneal ulceration at preentation. All four children received ytemic doxycycline or erythromycin for at leat 12 month and howed coniderable improvement within the firt month of therapy. No recurrence wa noted within the mean 25.5 month of follow-up. None of the girl experienced any ide effect during the long treatment duration. Concluion Ophthalmologit hould conider acne roacea a a potential diagnoi for any child who ha any combination of meibomian dieae, chronic blephariti, recurrent chalazia, and chronic ymptom of photophobia, ocular irritation, and redne that doe not repond to routine medical treatment. uch patient repond very well to long-term treatment with ytemic erythromycin/doxycycline.
