Abstract :
Purpoe To compare the viual and refractive outcome of laer epithelial keratomileui (LAEK) and laer in itu keratomileui (LAIK) for the treatment of low to moderate myopia. Deign Retropective, nonrandomized, control-matched tudy. Method The chart of 2257 eye that underwent LAEK or LAIK treatment were reviewed. Patient who were 21 year of age or older having between −0.75 and −6.00 diopter (D) of myopia with up to −2.25 D of atigmatim were included. One hundred twenty-two LAEK-treated eye were matched with 122 LAIK-treated eye having preoperative phere, cylinder, and pherical equivalent (E) within ±0.50 D. Both group had imilar preoperative bet pectacle-corrected viual acuity (BCVA), laer platform, and follow-up duration. Outcome meaure were viual and refractive reult. Reult Preoperatively, the mean E wa −3.50 ± 1.40 D for LAEK and −3.50 ± 1.42 D for LAIK (P = .59). Potoperatively, the mean logarithm of minimum angle of reolution (logMAR) uncorrected viual acuity (UCVA) wa 0.01 ± 0.08 (20/21) for LAEK and 0.06 ± 0.12 (20/23) for LAIK; the mean E wa −0.15 ± 0.40 D for LAEK and −0.37 ± 0.45 D for LAIK; and the mean logMAR of BCVA wa −0.03 ± 0.06 (20/19) for LAEK and −0.02 ± 0.05 (20/19) for LAIK. No eye lot 2 or more line of BCVA in both group. Concluion light difference in the viual and refractive reult between LAEK and LAIK were oberved, depite the ue of the ame nomogram. Both procedure were afe, effective, and predictable. Nomogram adjutment may be neceary for LAIK urgeon adopting urface ablation.
