Abstract :
Purpoe To compare refractive performance of Artian (Ophtec, Groningen, The Netherland) or Veriye phakic intraocular len and it foldable verion, Artiflex (Ophtec), for the correction of moderately high myopia. Deign Randomized pilot tudy. Method etting: Intitutional practice. patient population: Thirty-one patient with myopia that ranged from −6 to −14 diopter (D). interventional procedure: One eye wa implanted with an Artian phakic intraocular len (PIOL) and the other with an Artiflex PIOL. main outcome meaure: Primary outcome meaure wa the percentage of eye with uncorrected viual acuity (UCVA) of >20/40 at one year after the operation. Main econdary outcome meaure were the afety index, the change of two line or more of bet pectacle-corrected viual acuity (BCVA) and the endothelial cell count. Reult No intraoperative complication were noticed. One year after urgery, the percentage of eye with UCVA of >20/40 wa 51.6% (16/31 patient) for Artian-treated eye and 77.4% (24/31 patient) for Artiflex-treated eye (P = .033). One month after urgery, thi ame percentage wa 42.9% (13/31 patient) and 77.4% (24/31 patient), repectively (P = .004). The afety index at one year wa 1.13 ± 0.24 for Artian-treated eye and 1.12 ± 0.21 for Artiflex-treated eye, which i a difference that wa not tatitically ignificant (P = 0.742). At one year after urgery, the change of two line or more of BCVA and the endothelial cell lo were imilar for both group. Concluion To correct moderately high myopia, the Artiflex len provide a fater viual recovery and a better UCVA than doe the Artian len. The afety of the len hould be upported by an enlarged ample ize and a longer follow-up period.
