Abstract :
Purpoe
To etimate the central retinal vein preure in patient with ichemic v nonichemic central retinal vein occluion (CRVO).
Deign
Propective clinical obervational comparative tudy.
Method
The tudy included 28 patient with CRVO, either of the ichemic type (n = 7) or the nonichemic type (n = 21). The control group conited of 38 ubject without retinal dieae. A new ophthalmodynamometer coniting of a Goldmann contact len fitted with a preure enor into the holding grip of the contact len, wa ued to indirectly etimate the central retinal artery and vein preure.
Reult
Central retinal vein preure wa ignificantly higher in the ichemic CRVO group than in the nonichemic CRVO group (91.5 ± 30.1 arbitrary unit v 52.4 ± 32.5 arbitrary unit; P = .014), in which it wa ignificantly (P < .001) higher than in the control group (4.8 ± 8.1 arbitrary unit). Central retinal vein preure wa higher than the diatolic central retinal artery preure ignificantly (P = .039) more frequently in the ichemic CRVO group (7/7 or 100%) than in the nonichemic CRVO group (8/21 or 38%) or the control group (0/38; P < .001). Central retinal artery preure wa ignificantly (P = .017) lower in the ichemic CRVO group (46.0 ± 10.6 arbitrary unit) than in the nonichemic CRVO group (64.5 ± 22.8 arbitrary unit), in which it wa ignificantly (P = .016) lower than in the control group (79.9 ± 22.3 arbitrary unit).
Concluion
Ophthalmodynamometric etimation of the retinal vein preure may be helpful for the differentiation between the ichemic v nonichemic type of CRVO. In the ichemic type, vein pulation were uually oberved at upradiatolic arterial value.
