Intraoperative clerotomy-related Retinal Break for Macular urgery, 20- v 25-Gauge Vitrectomy ytem

Purpoe To compare the rate of intraoperative clerotomy-related retinal break (RRB) between 20- and 25-gauge vitrectomy ytem for the correction of macular pucker (MP) and macular hole (MH). Deign Retropective interventional cae erie. Method ingle intitution review of 347 conecutive eye of 333 patient between Augut 2003 and May 2005 receiving par plana vitrectomy (PPV) for MP or MH repair. Eye were excluded if they had any form of proliferative retinopathy, or if there wa an intraoperative converion of any clerotomy from 25- to 20- gauge. Reult Fourteen (6.4%) of 219 eye in the 20-gauge group had RRB v 4 (3.1%) of 128 eye in the 25-gauge group (Fiher exact tet, P value = .22). Concluion There wa a trend for lightly lower rate of intraoperative clerotomy-related retinal break, ingle or multiple, with 25-gauge PPV compared with 20-gauge PPV, but the difference were not tatitically ignificant.
