Abstract :
Purpoe
To report a cae of central retinal vein occluion in the etting of type II protein C deficiency, and to decribe the appropriate tet for detecting thi clotting abnormality.
Deign
Obervational cae report.
Method
Retropective review of clinical examination and laboratory finding.
Reult
A 16-year-old girl wa evaluated for progreive monocular viion lo occurring over a period of one month. Dilated fundu examination and fluorecein angiography revealed the preence of a central retinal vein occluion. Hypercoagulable work-up demontrated normal protein C antigen level, but a marked reduction in protein C function, confirming a type II protein C deficiency.
Concluion
Central retinal vein occluion may be aociated with type II protein C deficiency. Teting for protein C antigen level and function i neceary for detection of both type I and type II protein C deficiency.
