Effect of Chronic Hyperglycemia on Intraocular Preure in Patient With Diabete

Purpoe To invetigate the effect of chronic hyperglycemia on intraocular preure (IOP) in patient with diabete. Deign Cro-ectional tudy. Method We propectively meaured the IOP by Goldmann applanation tonometry in patient with diabete with mild hyperglycemia (glycoylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) ≤ 6.5%), moderate hyperglycemia (6.5% < HbA1c < 8.0), and evere hyperglycemia (HbA1c ≥ 8.0%). None of the patient with diabete had diabetic retinopathy, econdary glaucoma, ocular or laer therapy, or hitory of glaucoma. The HbA1c level determined within three month of the IOP meaurement wa ued. tatitical analyi wa performed by Mann-Whitney U tet. P < .05 wa conidered ignificant. Reult The mean IOP in the mild group (n = 58) wa 15.5 ± 2.5 mm Hg, which wa tatitically ignificantly lower than that of the evere group (16.6 ± 2.4 mm Hg; P = .013; n = 60). Concluion Chronic hyperglycemia i aociated with increaed IOP in patient with diabete.
