Purpoe To invetigate the aociation between HLA cla I antigen and teven-Johnon yndrome (J)/toxic epidermal necrolyi (TEN) with ocular complication in Japanee. Deign Cae-control tudy. Method We examined the hitocompatibility antigen gene HLA-A, -B, and -C of 40 Japanee J/TEN patient with ocular complication and 113 healthy Japanee volunteer by polymerae chain reaction amplification and ubequent hybridization with equence-pecific oligonucleotide probe (PCR-O). Reult We clarified that HLA-A*0206 i trongly aociated with J/TEN with ocular complication in the Japanee. Concluion Becaue thi finding i completely different from data reported elewhere on Taiwanee Han Chinee patient and Caucaian patient, it ugget trong ethnic difference in the HLA-J aociation and point to the need for tudie in other ethnic population in order to obtain a global picture.
