Abstract
Purpoe
To evaluate the protein oteopontin (OPN) a a potential new marker for creening and detection of metatatic uveal melanoma.
Deign
Propective, clinical tudy.
Method
Twenty-eight plama ample of 27 patient with uveal melanoma were analyzed, and the OPN plama level were quantified. Eight of thee patient howed liver metatai. A a control, we meaured OPN level in eight healthy, age-matched individual.
Reult
The median plama concentration of OPN in patient with melanoma without metatai wa 46.78 ng/ml (range, 14.5 to 118.67 ng/ml). In contrat, increaed median level of OPN of 170.72 ng/ml (range, 87.37 to 375.54 ng/ml, P <.001) were een in eight patient with proven metatatic dieae. Healthy patient without uveal melanoma howed a median plama concentration of OPN of 54.6 ng/ml (range, 38.23 to 71.21 ng/ml).
Concluion
The protein OPN eem to be a promiing tumor marker for detecting metatatic dieae in patient with uveal melanoma.
