  • Abstract
Purpoe To etimate the incidence of ocular complication and viion lo in patient with juvenile idiopathic arthriti (JIA)-aociated uveiti, to decribe rik factor for viion lo, and to decribe the aociation between therapy and complication and viion lo. Deign Retropective cohort tudy. Method etting: ingle-center, academic practice. tudy population: A total of 75 patient with JIA-aociated uveiti evaluated between July 1984 and Augut 2005. procedure: Clinical data on thee patient were analyzed. outcome meaure: Occurrence of ocular complication and viion of 20/50 or wore and 20/200 or wore. Reult Over a median follow-up of three year, the incidence of any ocular complication wa 0.33/eye-year (EY). Rate of viion lo to 20/50 or wore and 20/200 or wore were 0.10/EY and 0.08/EY, repectively. Rik factor at preentation for incident viion lo included preence of poterior ynechiae, anterior chamber flare ≥ 1+, and abnormal intraocular preure (IOP). During follow-up, ocular inflammation ≥ 0.5+ cell wa aociated with an increaed rik of viual impairment (relative rik [RR] = 2.02, P = .006) and of blindne (RR = 2.99, P = .03). Immunouppreive drug therapy reduced the rik of hypotony by 74% (P = .002), epiretinal membrane formation by 86% (P = .05), and blindne in the better eye by 60% (P = .04). Concluion Incident viion lo and complication were common. Preence of poterior ynechiae, anterior chamber flare ≥ 1+, and abnormal IOP at preentation were aociated with viion lo during follow-up. Ue of immunouppreive drug reduced the rik of ome ocular complication and of blindne in the better-eeing eye.
