Abstract :
Purpoe
Coding variation and it impact on identified population i a major concern in databae analye. We aeed potential difference in demographic and healthcare charge among patient with open-angle glaucoma identified through different International Claification of Dieae, Ninth Reviion (ICD-9) coding algorithm.
Deign
Retropective databae analyi.
Method
Three glaucoma cohort were identified baed on hierarchical incluion of patient with ≥2 glaucoma ICD-9 code (PharMetric, Inc, Watertown, Maachuett, UA, 1998 to 2003). Decriptive tatitic and healthcare charge were aeed for each cohort.
Reult
The three cohort included 64,380, 14,705, and 4,225 unique patient each. Although ignificant difference in age, gender, region, payer type, product type, and medical comorbiditie exited among the three cohort, thee difference had little impact on reource conumption when the cohort were combined, given the maller number of patient outide of the primary cohort.
Concluion
Glaucoma coding variation in adminitrative data et ha limited impact on analye of reource conumption among open-angle glaucoma patient.
