Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate central retinal enitivity and it relation to the ymptomatic change noted in central viual diturbance hortly after photodynamic therapy (PDT) in eye with polypoidal choroidal vaculopathy (PCV). Deign Retropective interventional cae erie. Method We reviewed retropectively 20 eye of 20 patient who underwent PDT for the treatment of ubfoveal PCV. Microperimetry in the macular area wa performed with Micro Perimeter 1 (MP1) [Nidek, Vigonza, Italy] before and at one, three, and ix month after PDT. Forty meaurement point were located within the central 10 degree of the macula. Reult After PDT, although mot eye howed a reduction in exudation, the mean pottreatment viual acuity did not change ignificantly. At one month after PDT, however, retinal enitivitie within the central 2 degree, 6 degree, and 10 degree field, which were 3.6 ± 3.1, 5.1 ± 3.4, and 6.2 ± 3.6 dB [decibel] at baeline, improved to 5.9 ± 3.8 (P = .003), 7.1 ± 3.6 (P = .003), and 8.1 ± 3.5 dB (P = .004). At one month after treatment, 14 patient (70%) noted ubjective improvement of the central viual diturbance and mean retinal enitivity within the central 2 degree, 6 degree, and 10 degree field had improved more than 2 dB in 11, 10, and eight eye, repectively. At three and ix month after PDT, however, potoperative improvement of the retinal enitivitie wa diminihed. Concluion Retinal enitivity in the macular area of eye with ubfoveal PCV improved hortly after PDT, and may account, at leat in part, for the immediate ubjective improvement in central viion after PDT.
