Purpoe To invetigate anatomic ucce after urgery for chronic retinal detachment. Deign Retropective, cae erie review. Method The urgical outcome of reattachment urgery for 36 eye of 35 patient with chronic retinal detachment are reported and are compared with the outcome for 129 freh retinal detachment. Reult After excluion of retinal detachment econdary to retinal dialyi and of cae with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), ucce after a ingle procedure wa een in eight of 14 (57.1%) chronic retinal detachment, and thi compare with 92 of 107 (86.0%) freh retinal detachment (P = .0161). Concluion Chronicity of retinal detachment at preentation i an important and poor prognotic indicator for reattachment urgery.
