Abstract
Purpoe
To evaluate the fovea of nanophthalmic patient.
Deign
Retropective obervational cae erie.
Method
Four nanophthalmic patient examined between April 2005 and April 2006 were included. Viual acuity (VA), refractive correction, axial length, corneal diameter, preence or lack of foveal light reflex, a well a fluorecein angiogram (FA), and optical coherence tomography (OCT) can of the maculae were evaluated.
Reult
None of the eight eye had a foveal light reflex, correponding to lack of a normal foveal pit on OCT. Fluorecein angiography howed no normal foveal avacular zone; all were either completely abent or mall and rudimentary.
Concluion
Nanophthalmic patient rarely have bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA) better than 20/40 at any point in their live, even with an abence of known complication, uch a uveal effuion or glaucoma. In many patient, thi viual deficiency may correpond to an abent or rudimentary foveal avacular zone and lack of a normal foveal pit.
