Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate central corneal thickne (CCT) in a Japanee population and to decribe the relationhip between CCT and other factor.
Deign
Population-baed cro-ectional tudy.
Method
Reliable CCT meaurement were obtained uing pecular-type pachymetry from 2,868 peron 40 year or older elected randomly from the population of Tajimi City.
Reult
The CCT averaged 0.521 ± 0.032 mm (mean ± tandard deviation). The CCT wa thicker in men than in women (P < .001) and wa correlated with age (right eye only), height, weight, diatolic blood preure, ytolic blood preure (left eye only), intraocular preure (IOP), and corneal curvature (P < .05, the Pearon correlation analye). Multiple regreion analyi howed that only gender, IOP, and corneal curvature were ignificantly (P < .011) aociated with CCT.
Concluion
The mean CCT obtained uing an optical method in a Japanee population wa 0.521 mm. The CCT wa aociated ignificantly with gender, IOP, and corneal curvature but not with age in multiple regreion analye.
