Refractive Finding in Children with Atigmatic Parent: The ydney Myopia tudy

Purpoe To examine the impact of parental atigmatim on atigmatic error and ocular biometric parameter in children. Deign Population-baed cro-ectional tudy. Method ix-year-old children (n = 1,741; 78.9% repone) and 12-year-old children (n = 2,367; 75.3% repone) underwent a comprehenive eye examination, including cycloplegic autorefraction and ocular biometry. Atigmatim wa determined in parent from pectacle precription, which were upplied for 468 children. Reult The prevalence of atigmatim in ix-year-old children with atigmatic parent wa not ignificantly different from that of thoe without atigmatic parent (6.8% v 2.8%); correponding rate for 12-year-old children were 9.5% and 7.8% (both P > .05). No ignificant difference in mean cylinder and in ocular biometric parameter were oberved between children with atigmatic parent and thoe with no atigmatic parent. Concluion Parental atigmatim wa not aociated with a higher prevalence of childhood atigmatim and did not eem to have a ignificant impact on meaure of ocular biometric parameter in children.
