Abstract
Purpoe
To invetigate the complication profile and the long-term functional outcome of combined par plana vitrectomy and cleral-fixated utured poterior chamber len (PC IOL) implantation.
Deign
Retropective, conecutive, interventional cae erie.
Method
The record of 63 patient (mean age, 67.5 year) were reviewed retropectively (follow-up, 12 to 132 month; mean, 43.5 month). The underlying ocular pathologic feature; the intraoperative, early (within two week after urgery), and late complication (more than two week after urgery); final bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA); and the refractive outcome were recorded.
Reult
Fifty-nine of 63 procedure (93.7%) were performed without complication. Intraoperative complication included vitreou hemorrhage (n = 2), a retinal tear (n = 1), and a rupture of the iri bae (n = 1). Early complication included tranient raie of intraocular preure (IOP; n = 19), tranient vitreou hemorrhage (n = 2), cleral tunnel inufficiency (n = 5), pupillary capture of intraocular len [IOL] (n = 6), peritent vitreou (n = 3), and choroidal hemorrhage (n = 1). Late complication occurred in 12 patient: rhegmatogenou retinal detachment (n = 4), proliferative vitreoretinopathy retinal detachment econdary to the underlying ocular pathologic feature (n = 2), choroidal hemorrhage (n = 1), macular pucker (n = 1), and IOL dilocation (n = 4), including two cae of uture break. Mean BCVA in logarithm of the minimum angle of reolution unit improved ignificantly from 1.025 (tandard deviation [D], 0.654) to 0.766 (D, 0.750; P = .03). Mean cylindric equivalent ignificantly changed from 0.92 diopter (D; D, 1.075) to 1.76 D (D, 1.344; P = .005).
Concluion
The urgical procedure were performed afely in approximately 94% of patient. Mot potoperative complication were minor: ignificant one occurred in approximately 20%, wherea uture break were oberved rarely. The only moderate long-term functional improvement in thi cae erie wa mainly determined by the underlying ocular pathologic feature.
