Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate the efficacy of photodynamic therapy with verteporfin for the treatment of patient with corneal neovacularization.
Deign
Propective interventional cae erie.
Method
Eighteen eye of 18 patient with table corneal neovacularization who were refractory to conventional treatment were treated with photodynamic therapy with verteporfin (6 mg/m2). Five patient were treated following penetrating keratoplaty (PK), and two patient were treated before PK. Anterior egment photography wa performed before and after treatment. Bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA) and area of corneal neovacularization were meaured.
Reult
At the one-year follow-up, 14 eye (77.8%) howed a decreae in corneal neovacularization, and nine eye (50.0%) howed complete vacular occluion. In five patient who had corneal allograft, complete or partial occluion wa achieved in all eye. Two patient who underwent ubequent keratoplaty did not manifet allograft rejection or revacularization. eventeen eye (94.4%) had table or improved viion. The mean area of corneal neovacularization ignificantly decreaed from 25.5 ± 14.2 mm2 to 14.9 ± 14.6 mm2 (P < .01), repectively. No ignificant complication aociated with photodynamic therapy were oberved except mild tromal haze in one eye.
Concluion
Photodynamic therapy with verteporfin may be effective for the treatment of corneal neovacularization.
