afety of Intravitreal Injection in Patient Receiving Warfarin Anticoagulation

Purpoe To evaluate the afety of intravitreal Macugen (OI/Eyetech, New York, New York, UA) injection among patient receiving warfarin anticoagulation. Deign Retropective chart review. Method A earch wa conducted for patient treated with intravitreal Macugen for choroidal neovacularization reulting from age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Incluion criteria included patient receiving warfarin anticoagulation in whom therapy wa maintained. Reult The review identified 31 patient (32 eye) who underwent 102 intravitreal Macugen injection while receiving warfarin anticoagulation. The mean and median number of Macugen injection per patient wa three. No intraoperative or immediate potoperative hemorrhagic complication were noted. One patient experienced an acute ubmacular hemorrhage 35 day after the third Macugen injection. There were no other hemorrhagic event among the remaining patient. Concluion The retropective chart review of patient treated with intravitreal Macugen for choroidal neovacularization reulting from AMD while receiving warfarin therapy ugget that patient may undergo intravitreal injection afely without ceation of anticoagulation therapy.
