Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate central corneal thickne (CCT) in normal children (control) and in thoe with cataract, peudophakia, and aphakia. Deign Propective, obervational cae erie. Method CCT wa meaured in 369 eye of 223 children. ubject with glaucoma, anterior egment abnormalitie, or intraocular preure of more than 30 mm Hg were excluded. Group mean were compared for control and for eye with pediatric cataract, peudophakia, and aphakia. Reult The mean CCT of eye with cataract wa more than that of control (574 ± 54 μm [n = 46] and 552 ± 38 μm [n = 230], repectively; P = .001). After excluding from the cataract group thoe eye with aniridia, Down yndrome, Marfan yndrome, or glaucoma urgery, the mean CCT (564 ± 34 μm [n = 36]) wa no longer greater than that of control (P = .07). The mean CCT of peudophakic eye (598 ± 56 μm [n = 29]) wa greater than the mean CCT of control (P < .001) and wa imilar to the mean CCT of eye with cataract (P = .06). The mean CCT of aphakic eye (642 ± 88 μm [n = 64]) wa greater than the mean CCT of control (P < .001), eye with cataract (P < .001), and eye with peudophakia (P = .003). Concluion In the abence of factor known to affect CCT (Down yndrome, Marfan yndrome, and aniridia), CCT i imilar in eye with pediatric cataract and normal control and increae after cataract urgery.
