Abstract :
Purpoe To tudy the range of ocular ymptom in a cohort of patient with chikungunya infection. Deign Retropective, obervational cae erie. Method Patient attending a tertiary eye care hopital in outh India were included in the tudy. We included adult patient with erologically confirmed chikungunya viru infection who received clinical care at the Aravind Eye Hopital, Madurai, outh India. They were aeed for demographic characteritic, ocular ymptom, laboratory parameter, and chikungunya viru infection everity. Patient underwent a complete ophthalmologic examination that included viual acuity, lit-lamp examination, and indirect funducopic examination. Viual outcome at the end of three month wa the main outcome meaure. Reult The chart of 37 patient were analyzed baed on the clinical picture and the erologic reult. Forty patient were included a control and teted negative. There were 21 male and 16 female with a mean age of 44.17 year. The main ocular ymptom included granulomatou and nongranulomatou anterior uveiti, optic neuriti retrobulbar neuriti, and dendritic leion. Of the 26 patient who were followed up for three month, the viual acuity improved in 11 patient (42.3%), remained the ame in 12 patient (46.15%), and worened in three patient (11.5%). Concluion The main ocular manifetation aociated with the recent epidemic outbreak of chikungunya viru infection in outh India included granulomatou and nongranulomatou anterior uveiti, optic neuriti, retrobulbar neuriti, and dendritic leion. The viual prognoi generally wa good, with mot patient recovering good viion. Further tudie are needed to undertand the pathogenei of thi dieae.
