Abstract :
Purpoe To define the relationhip between retinal light enitivity and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickne a meaured uing the tratu optical coherence tomograph (OCT). Deign Propective tudy. Method etting: Intitutional. tudy population: A total of 126 healthy ubject, 42 patient with ocular hypertenion (OHT) and 64 patient with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) were examined by the 24/II program of the Humphrey Field Analyzer (Carl Zei Meditec, Inc, Dublin, California, UA), and the Fat RNFL Thickne examination of the OCT. Individual viual field (VF) tet core and peripapillary RNFL thickne meaurement were grouped into ix topographically correponding ector whoe mean value were then calculated. One eye per patient wa randomly choen. main outcome meaure: The correlation between mean retinal enitivity (expreed both in decibel and unlogged cale) and RNFL thickne were decribed with linear and logarithmic regreion analye. Reult With reference to all 232 individual, the equation that bet explained the model wa logarithmic when uing the decibel cale, and either linear or logarithmic when uing the unlogged cale. A tatitically ignificant, age-adjuted correlation between function and tructure wa found in mot ector both uing the decibel (logarithmic regreion analyi r2 0.24 to 0.61, P < .001), and the unlogged cale (r2 0.37 to 0.53, P < .001 in both linear and logarithmic regreion analye). Concluion When uing the decibel cale, the logarithmic equation may better explain the function/tructure relationhip between retinal enitivity and OCT-meaured RNFL thickne along a wide pectrum of glaucoma continuum. Thee reult upport the need to combine functional and tructural tet in the detection of early glaucoma.
