Abstract :
Purpoe
To review the clinical preentation, location, ytemic feature, management, and natural hitory of orbital arcoid.
Deign
Retropective, noncomparative, interventional cae erie.
Method
Twenty patient with arcoid and arcoidal reaction of the orbit underwent biopy, exciion of localized ma, and ytemic and local treatment at a tertiary referral center. Age, gender, onet, ymptom and ign, characterization of dieae proce, location, ytemic dieae, aociated ytemic feature, management, and recurrence of the dieae were identified.
Reult
Of the 20 patient tudied, five were male and 15 were female. The mean age wa 50.55 ± 16.43 year (range, 18 to 77 year). The mot common ymptom wa the preence of a palpable ma, followed by eyelid welling. Review of the computed tomographic can revealed four main categorie of preentation: lacrimal gland infiltration (n = 11; 55%), orbital ma (n = 4; 20%), optic nerve heath and dural involvement (n = 4; 20%), and extraocular mucle involvement (n = 1; 5%). Concurrent ytemic arcoidoi dicovered after the diagnoi of orbital arcoid wa preent in 10 cae (50%). The remaining howed no evidence of ytemic dieae at follow-up. Angiotenin converting enzyme analyi wa performed in 10 cae; in only two (20%) wa elevated, and in the remaining eight, it wa within normal level.
Concluion
Orbital arcoid ha a divere clinical preentation varying from lacrimal gland infiltration, oft tiue orbital ma, intraorbital and extraorbital optic nerve heath and dural involvement, to extraocular mucle involvement. The orbital ite mot commonly involved wa the lacrimal gland.
