Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate the macular change following ilicone oil removal after urgery for complicated retinal detachment (RD) with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR).
Deign
Retropective interventional cae erie.
Method
etting: Vienna, Autria. tudy population: Thirty-nine patient with attached retina after ilicone oil removal following previou vitrectomy and ilicone oil tamponade for complicated RD and PVR grade C3 and wore. obervation procedure: Examination of macular anatomy with biomicrocopy, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and fluorecein angiography (FA). Macular function wa teted by aeing logMAR ditance viual acuity (VA) uing Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy tudy (ETDR) chart and reading acuity and reading peed uing a tandardized tet (Radner chart). main outcome meaure: Macular anatomy, VA, reading acuity, and reading peed.
Reult
The macula wa clinically normal in five patient (12.8%). Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) irregularitie were found in nine patient (23.1%). Eight patient (20.5%) had macular pucker, even (18.0%) had cytoid macular edema (CME), and 10 (25.6%) had ubretinal fibroi. The mean VA of all patient wa logMAR 0.67 ± 0.68 (range, −0.1 to 3.0). ix eye did not achieve reading acuity. The ditance VA of the remaining 33 eye wa logMAR 0.44 ± 0.29 and their mean reading acuity wa logRAD 0.62 ± 0.35, with a reading peed ranging from 55 to 240 word per minute.
Concluion
We found macular change in 87% of the patient, one-third thereof being eligible for further treatment (macular pucker or CME). Thu, the majority of thee patient do not eem to be eligible for a further improvement of anatomic or functional outcome.
