Abstract :
Purpoe To compare the morphologic feature of corneal endothelium in patient with cataract and clear lene. Deign A ingle, obervational clinic-baed cae-control tudy. Method In thi ingle, obervational clinic-baed cae-control tudy at Iladevi Cataract & IOL Reearch Centre, Ahmedabad, India, 2,025 eye of 2,025 individual with cataract and clear lene were evaluated for corneal endothelial morphologic feature, which included the endothelial cell denity (ECD), coefficient of variation (CV) of cell area, and percentage of hexagonal cell. Nine hundred and thirty-nine eye of patient with clear lene were aigned to the control group and 1,086 eye of patient with cataract were aigned to the cae group. The main outcome meaure tudied were the influence of variable uch a age, gender, axial length, and anterior chamber depth on the corneal endothelial morphologic feature in patient with cataract and clear lene. Reult Eye in the cataract group had a low mean ECD (2241.52 ± 158.69 cell/mm2 v 2446.04 ± 197.79 cell/mm2), high CV of cell area, and low mean percentage of hexagonal cell compared with thoe in the clear len group. Multiple linear regreion analyi revealed a reduction in ECD in the preence of cataract, in female ubject, and with advancing age, wherea an increae in ECD wa noted with an increae in anterior chamber depth of more than 2.7 mm (P = .020) and an increae in axial length of more than 24.0 mm (P < .001). Concluion Patient with cataract had lower level of ECD than the correponding normal population. In multiple regreion analyi, after taking into account all the variable, we found a ignificant impact on the morphologic feature of corneal endothelium in patient with cataract when compared with thoe with clear lene.
