Abstract :
Purpoe
To tudy the effect of higher-order aberration (HOA) on viual function in keratoconu with a rigid ga permeable (RGP) contact len (CL).
Deign
Retropective nonrandomized tudy.
Method
Thirteen eye of 10 ubject with keratoconu who wore a RGP CL (KC-RGP group), 15 eye of nine normal ubject (normal group), and 14 eye of nine ubject who wore a RGP CL (RGP group) who had no ocular dieae except for refractive error and had 20/20 or better-corrected viual acuity were included in thi tudy. The root-mean-quare (RM) of the third-, fourth-, fifth-, and ixth-order Zernike coefficient (total HOA), the RM of the third-order Zernike coefficient (3) (coma-like aberration), the RM of the fourth-order coefficient (4) (pherical-like aberration), and the area under the log contrat enitivity function (AULCF) were evaluated.
Reult
The AULCF in the KC-RGP group wa ignificantly lower than in the other two group. The total HOA, 3, and 4 in the KC-RGP group were ignificantly higher than in the other two group. There were ignificant negative correlation between the area under the log contrat enitivity function and the total HOA, 3, and 4.
Concluion
The viual performance in a keratoconic eye with a RGP CL degrade compared with normal eye with and without RGP CL, even if the corrected VA i good. The degradation i aumed to be related to reidual HOA in a keratoconic eye with a RGP CL.
