Abstract :
Purpoe To invetigate the effect of grade 3 naal conjunctivochalai (NCCh) on the tear film inflammation, ocular urface finding, and tear function finding. Deign Propective, obervational cae erie. Method Eleven eye with Yokoi grade 3 NCCh in which the chalatic conjunctiva occluded the punctum and 18 eye without NCCh but with central or temporal conjunctivochalai, or both, and 16 eye of healthy control were recruited propectively. Enzyme-linked immunoorbent aay for inflammatory tear cytokine, tear film break-up time (BUT), chirmer I tet meaurement, and fluorecein and roe bengal vital taining and impreion cytologic and bruh cytologic analyi for real-time revere-trancriptae polymerae chain reaction analyi of MUC5AC meenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) expreion were performed. Reult Eye with grade 3 NCCh had ignificantly delayed tear clearance. All inflammatory cytokine howed higher value in eye with grade 3 NCCh compared with the eye without naal chalai with a comparably ignificant elevation in interleukin-1b and tumor necroi factor α level. The mean roe bengal core in eye with grade 3 NCCh wa ignificantly higher compared with eye without naal chalai and eye of control. The mean goblet cell denity wa ignificantly lower in eye with grade 3 NCCh with downregulation of the relative MUC5AC mRNA expreion. Concluion Inflammation play an important role in the pathogenei of conjunctivochalai and i more pronounced in eye with naal chalai. Pooling of inflammatory cytokine in tear of patient with NCCh aociated with delayed tear clearance induce ditinct advere effect that affect the ocular urface health.
