Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the long-term outcome of laer in itu keratomileui (LAIK) for myopia of up to −10 diopter (D).
Deign
A long-term (10-year) follow-up retropective, interventional cae erie.
Method
The tudy included 97 eye of 70 patient with a preoperative pherical equivalent (E) of up to −10 D treated with myopic LAIK at the Intituto Oftalmológico de Alicante, Alicante, pain, uing the VIX 20/20 excimer laer (anta Clara, California, UA) and the Automated Corneal haper microkeratome (Chiron Viion, Irvine, California, UA). All patient were evaluated three month, one year, two year, five year, and 10 year after urgery. The main outcome meaure were refractive predictability and tability, mean corneal keratometry, topographical cylinder, afety, efficacy, tability of viual acuity, and potoperative complication.
Reult
At 10 year, 71 (73%) of 97 eye were within ± 1.00 D and 89 (92%) were within ± 2.00 D. Twenty eye (20.8%) underwent retreatment becaue of overcorrection, undercorrection, regreion, or both. The mean E lightly decreaed (myopic regreion) over 10 year, with a mean myopic regreion of −0.12 ± 0.16 D per year. Fifty-four (54.6%) of 97 eye demontrated an increae in bet pectacle-corrected viual acuity (BCVA) after 10 year. No eye developed corneal ectaia in the long-term, and only three eye lot more than two line of BCVA becaue of complication that were not attributable to the LAIK procedure.
Concluion
LAIK for myopia of up to −10 D i a afe and effective procedure with light myopic regreion that low down with time and a high rate of BCVA increae in the long-term.
