Abstract :
Purpoe To tudy the prevalence and aociation of aymptomatic retinal emboli in a cohort of Latino and to compare thee finding with thoe of previou population tudie. Deign Population-baed cro-ectional tudy. Method All participant in thi tudy underwent a comprehenive eye examination, including fundu photography. Photograph were graded by trained maked grader. Lifetyle factor and medical hitory were obtained during extenive interview. Blood preure, erum glucoe, and glycoylated hemoglobin were meaured. Age- and gender-pecific prevalence rate were calculated. Odd ratio (OR) were calculated uing tepwie logitic regreion analye to identify independent rik factor aociated with aymptomatic retinal emboli. Reult Photograph gradable for retinal emboli were obtained from 5,959 participant. For all participant, the prevalence of definite aymptomatic retinal emboli wa 0.4% (n = 26). tepwie logitic regreion analye identified moking (> five pack year; OR, 4.3) and hitory of coronary artery dieae (OR, 2.8) to be aociated independently with retinal emboli (P < .05). Concluion We found a lower prevalence of aymptomatic retinal emboli compared with previou population-baed tudie. Thi could be econdary to the Lo Angele Latino Eye tudy (LALE) population being younger, having lower blood preure, and having fewer moker than other tudie. A in other tudie, moking emerge a the tronget aociation with retinal emboli.
