Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine whether the chorioretinal atrophy (ChRA) adjacent to a choroidal neovacularization (CNV) i related to the development of a macular hole or macular retinochii in highly myopic eye.
Deign
Obervational cae erie.
Method
One hundred and eighty-one eye of 125 patient with high myopia were divided into three group: group 1 had a myopic CNV urrounded by ChRA larger than 1 dik area (43 eye), group 2 had a myopic CNV urrounded by a ChRA maller than 1 dik area (45 eye), and group 3 did not have CNV (93 eye). Optical coherence tomography (OCT) wa ued to evaluate the macular morphologic feature, for example, macular hole and macular retinochii.
Reult
A macular hole wa detected by OCT in ix eye (14%) in group 1 and in none of the eye in group 2 and 3. The hole alway exited at the border between an old CNV and the urrounding ChRA. A macular retinochii wa detected in four eye (9%) in group 1 and in eight eye (9%) in group 3. The macular retinochii een in group 1 appeared markedly le column-like than thoe in group 3. It wa omewhat difficult to differentiate a retinal detachment from retinochii in the eye in group 1.
Concluion
Eye at the atrophic tage of myopic CNV have a higher rik of developing a macular hole, and we recommend periodic OCT examination for macular hole or macular retinochii, even in aymptomatic, highly myopic eye, after the CNV ha progreed to the atrophic tage.
