Abstract :
Purpoe To report trancleral 30-gauge fine-needle apiration biopy (FNAB) for cytology and cytogenetic in eye with macular choroidal melanoma. Deign Propective, interventional cae erie. Method Twenty-five patient (25 eye) who underwent trancleral 30-gauge FNAB of macular choroidal melanoma immediately prior to iodine-125 plaque placement were included in thi tudy, conducted at a tertiary care univerity hopital. The main outcome meaure were FNAB feaibility, cytology, cytogenetic analyi for monoomy 3, and urgical complication. Reult Trancleral 30-gauge FNAB of choroidal melanoma in the macula wa performed in 24 of 25 (96%) eye and wa not feaible owing to inufficient expoure in one eye (4%). Biopy wa diagnotic of choroidal melanoma in 17 of 24 (71%) eye. Fluorecent in itu hybridization (FIH) and/or GeneChip 500k NpI Mapping array (Affymetrix, anta Clara, California, UA) analyi for monoomy 3 wa completed in 16 of 24 (67%) revealing monoomy 3 in five eye and diomy 3 in 11 eye. Retinal perforation (four eye) did not require treatment or reult in retinal detachment; ubmacular hemorrhage (nine eye) and vitreou hemorrhage (five eye) cleared pontaneouly within one month. Concluion Trancleral FNAB of macular choroidal melanoma i feaible in mot eye and frequently yield cytogenetic information relevant to prognoi.
