Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the effectivene of conjunctival reection combined with Tenon layer exciion in treating uperior limbic keratoconjunctiviti (LK) and the involvement of mat cell in LK.
Deign
Retropective, interventional cae erie.
Method
Forty eye of 30 LK patient who were unreponive to medical treatment received uperior bulbar conjunctival reection, and another 20 patient who underwent cataract and retinal urgery erved a a control group. The conjunctiva pecimen from tudy and control patient were examined by hematoxylin and eoin taining and immunohitochemitry uing antibodie againt mat cell tryptae.
Reult
In all operated eye, the clinical ymptom and ign, including irritation and redne and uperior bulbar conjunctival hyperemia and uperior taral conjunctival papillary hypertrophy, ubided ignificantly three month after the operation. Only three eye had recurrence from the margin of conjunctival reection, and thi wa relieved after reoperation. Keratinized conjunctival epithelium, lo of goblet cell, and increaed mat cell number (P < .05) were found in the LK group.
Concluion
Our cae demontrate that uperior bulbar conjunctival reection combined with Tenon layer exciion i an effective treatment for LK. The pathologic finding ugget that mat cell may play a role in the pathogenei of LK.
