Abstract :
Purpoe
To preent the reult of a panel conenu aement of evaluation and therapy relating to primary open-angle glaucoma baed on available evidence and expert opinion.
Deign
A panel conenu aement of glaucoma diagnoi and therapy uing a modified RAND-like appropriatene methodology.
Method
One hundred and forty-eight quetion, mot of which related to glaucoma therapy, were created by a core nonvoting executive committee baed on common clinical quetion. An evidence-baed review of the literature pertaining to thee quetion wa provided to 10 voting panelit. Thee panelit, who did not participate in either the creation of the quetion or the conduct of the literature review, then were polled uing a modified technique derived from exiting methodology.
Reult
Conenu agreement or diagreement wa reached for 55.4% and 74.3% of the polling tatement before and after the panel meeting, repectively. Thi repreent a conenu agreement or diagreement on a majority of polling tatement both before and after a meeting of all panelit and the two co-chair of the program. There wa an increae in the proportion of tatement where conenu agreement wa reached after the panel meeting.
Concluion
Given the paucity of high-quality evidence relating to many of the iue addreed in thi aement and the variability of practice pattern among ophthalmologit, conenu agreement or diagreement wa reached for a high proportion of polling tatement.
