Abstract
Purpoe
To determine the health-related quality of life aociated with the prebyopia.
Deign
Cro-ectional, patient preference-baed, time trade-off utility analyi.
Method
One hundred and ten patient with pectacle-corrected prebyopia and a bet-corrected viual acuity of 20/40 or better were interviewed in a cro-ectional fahion uing a tandardized, validated, time trade-off utility analyi quetionnaire.
Reult
The mean utility aociated with the health tate of prebyopia in our ample wa 0.980 (tandard deviation, 0.086; 95% confidence interval, 0.964 to 0.996). Ten percent of the cohort had a prebyopia-aociated utility of 0.95 or le. Age, gender, level of education, marital tatu, and the degree of prebyopia did not ignificantly affect the time trade-off utilitie aociated with prebyopia.
Concluion
Prebyopia corrected with glae i aociated with a nominal decreae in quality of life, imilar to that of treated hypertenion, for the average peron with the condition. Approximately 10% of uch patient theoretically may be candidate for an intervention other than pectacle to correct the condition.
