Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate the aociation between the third high-reflectance band on high-reolution optical coherence tomography (OCT), fundu autofluorecence (AF), and kinetic perimetry reult in patient with typical retiniti pigmentoa (RP). Deign Retropective, obervational cae erie. Method Thirty-four patient with typical RP who were referred to our intitute were examined, with a diagnoi made by full-field electroretinography. We evaluated the fundu AF and the third high-reflectance band by high-reolution OCT, both qualitatively and quantitatively. We invetigated whether the vertical length of the AF diameter or the third high-reflectance band correlated with Goldmann kinetic perimetry reult. Reult We claified three type of abnormal fundu AF: ring AF, central AF, and the abence of both pattern. In eye with ring AF, the length of the third high-reflectance band wa almot equal to the diameter of the abnormal ring AF with ignificant correlation (P < .001), wherea the band length did not correlate with the diameter of the viual field (P = .237). Eye with central AF did not have a continuou third high-reflectance band. In eye with neither ring nor central AF, the length of the third high-reflectance band correlated with the AF length and the diameter of the viual field (P = .024 and P < .001, repectively). Concluion A novel claification baed on the fundu AF and the third high-reflectance band determined by OCT ugget different pattern of pathogenei in the retinal pigment epithelium and photoreceptor degeneration in the progreion of RP.
