Abstract :
Purpoe To decribe the reult and retinal complication of cataract urgery in adult with a hitory of premature birth from two eparate retina ervice. Deign Retropective, noncomparative, interventional, conecutive cae erie. Method A retropective chart review wa carried out of two cohort of patient: Beaumont Hopital and Will Eye Intitute. Eye of patient were elected who had a birth weight of le than 2200 g or a getational age of fewer than 32 week, were 15 year of age or older at baeline viit, and who underwent cataract urgery in one or both eye with at leat one follow-up examination. A total of 66 eye from 45 patient were elected and ubject to analyi. Reult Thirty-even eye (56%) had minimal cicatricial change reulting from Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). The mean age of cataract urgery wa 40.3 year. Twenty-five eye (38%) had at leat a one-line improvement in viion, 20 eye (30%) had no change in viion, and 21 eye (32%) had a decline in viion after cataract urgery. A potoperative complication of a retinal tear or retinal detachment developed in 15 (23%) of 66 eye. The everity of the baeline fundu change reulting from ROP did not correlate with the likelihood of developing a potcataract urgery complication. Reult were imilar between the two cohort. Concluion In patient with a hitory of premature birth, cataract urgery tend to be performed at a young age, ha a mixed range of viual reult, and can be aociated with a high rate of retinal complication.
