Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine whether implantation of an intraocular len (IOL) with a modified anterior apheric urface reult in reduced pherical aberration and improved contrat enitivity after cataract urgery.
Deign
Propective, comparative, interventional cae erie.
Method
In an intraindividual randomized propective tudy of 25 patient with bilateral cataract, an IOL with a modified anterior urface (Tecni Z9001; Advanced Medical Optic, anta Ana, California, UA; group 1) wa compared with biconvex len with pherical urface (ClariFlex; Advanced Medical Optic; group 2). Ocular aberration for a 5.0-mm pupil and 6.0-mm pupil were meaured with Hartmann-hack aberrometer. Quality of viion wa meaured by viual acuity and contrat enitivity under meopic and photopic condition. All patient were followed up for three month.
Reult
No tatitically ignificant difference in potoperative uncorrected and bet-corrected ditance viion acuity after a follow-up of three month exited between the group. Potoperative contrat enitivity teting revealed ignificant difference between the group under photopic and meopic condition. Thee difference reached tatitical ignificance under photopic condition at three patial frequencie and under meopic condition at all patial frequencie. When analyzing higher-order aberration, the difference between the group wa tatitically ignificant at the 5.00-mm and 6.00-mm pupil diameter, with the group 1 inducing le higher-order aberration and alo le pherical aberration compared with group 2.
Concluion
Reult how the Tecni Z9001 IOL with a modified anterior apheric urface induced ignificantly le higher-order aberration and pherical aberration compared with the ClariFlex IOL. Contrat enitivity revealed better value under photopic and meopic condition with the Tecni Z9001 IOL.
