Anterior Chamber Depth and Chamber Angle and Their Aociation with Ocular and General Parameter: The Beijing Eye tudy Original Reearch Article

Purpoe To invetigate the normative data of anterior chamber depth (ACD) and angle width and their aociation in Chinee adult. Deign Population-baed tudy. Method The Beijing Eye tudy 2006 included 3,251 ubject (73.3%) (aged 45+ year) out of 4,439 ubject who participated in the 2001 urvey and who returned for reexamination. The ubject underwent an ophthalmologic examination including meaurement of the anterior chamber dimenion by lit-lamp-baed optical coherence tomography (OCT). Reult Out of the 3,251 ubject, OCT meaurement were available for 2,985 ubject (91.8%). Mean ACD meaured 2.42 ± 0.34 mm and the mean anterior chamber angle (ACA) wa 38.3 ± 16.3 degree. In multivariate analyi, a hallow chamber depth wa ignificantly aociated with age (P < .001), hyperopic refractive error (P < .001), female gender (P < .001), hort body tature (P = .003), nuclear cataract (P = .03), central corneal thickne [CCT] (P < .001), large optic dik (P < .001), and preence of chronic angle-cloure glaucoma (P < .001). Correpondingly, a narrow ACA wa aociated with age (P < .001), female gender (P < .001), hyperopia (P < .001), nuclear cataract (P < .001), hort body tature (P = .001), large optic dik (P < .001), and angle-cloure glaucoma (P < .001). Chamber depth and angle width were not aociated with preence of age-related maculopathy and diabetic retinopathy. Concluion A hallow anterior chamber and a narrow chamber angle in Chinee adult are aociated with age, female gender, hyperopia, nuclear cataract, mall optic dik, hort body tature, CCT, and chronic angle-cloure glaucoma. Thee data may be helpful to explain anatomic relationhip of the anterior egment of the eye, and to elucidate rik factor of angle-cloure glaucoma.
