  • Abstract
    Purpoe To evaluate recent ophthalmic publication on ocular adnexal lymphoma (OAL) according to hitopathologic and immunophenotypic criteria ued in the diagnoi of ytemic lymphoma (World Health Organization claification). Deign ummary and critical analyi of recent clinical and pathologic tudie. Method Literature review and interpretation. Reult In the larget tudy of 353 cae of OAL publihed in the pathology literature, extranodal marginal zone lymphoma (EMZL) contituted 52%, follicular lymphoma 23%, mantle cell lymphoma 5%, and mall cell lymphocytic and chronic lymphocytic leukemia 4%—plu a reiduum of arcane entitie. In maller erie of le intenively tudied OAL in the ophthalmic literature, EMZL had a higher preponderance and alo were aociated with a favorable prognoi. Many EMZL eemed to arie primarily in the ocular adnexa (mucoa-aociated lymphoid tiue [MALT] lymphoma hould be retricted for EMZL involving epithelial tiue). Concluion Rigorou diagnotic criteria and a propoal for a propective multicenter tudy may bring further clarification to the emerging order in thi et of tumor.
