Abstract :
Purpoe
To compare a new inertion method uing a uture with the tandard forcep-aited inertion of the lamellar corneal graft in Decemet tripping automated endothelial keratoplaty (DAEK).
Deign
Interventional, comparative cae erie.
Method
DAEK wa performed on 28 conecutive eye of 28 patient (mean age ± tandard deviation, 72.5 ± 9.7 year; 12 male). The donor tiue wa prepared uing the Moria automated lamellar therapeutic keratectomy microkeratome head with a 300-mm blade depth on a Moria artificial anterior chamber (Moria, Antony, France). The central 9 mm of the recipientʹ Decemet membrane were tripped through a uperior limbal inciion. In eight conecutive unelected patient, a 10-0 monofilament uture on a long traight needle wa ued to inert the folded donor lenticula into the recipientʹ eye, wherea in the other 20 patient, a tandard inertion forcep wa ued. During the uture inertion, an anterior chamber maintainer wa ued to fill the anterior chamber continuouly with balanced alt olution to prevent it collape.
Reult
uture-aited DAEK did not differ ignificantly from forcep-aited DAEK in any of the preoperative parameter. No ignificant difference were noted in the intraoperative or potoperative complication. ix month after urgery, there were no ignificant difference in endothelial cell count (1804 v 1935 cell/mm2, repectively), viual acuity (20/40 v 20/36, repectively), or refraction (pherical equivalent, 0.93 v 1.05 diopter, repectively).
Concluion
uture-aited DAEK i a valid alternative to forcep inertion; however, it doe not eem to offer a ignificant advantage.
