Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the viion-related quality of life (VR-QOL) and viual function following vitrectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR).
Deign
Propective, interventional, conecutive, comparative cae erie.
Method
The 25-Item National Eye Intitute Viual Function Quetionnaire (VFQ-25) wa anwered by 51 patient with PDR before and three month after 20-gauge par plana vitrectomy. Among the patient with PDR, 30 underwent combined cataract urgery and vitrectomy. Clinical data were collected, including logarithm of minimal angle of reolution (logMAR) bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA), letter contrat enitivity, and metamorphopia. The VFQ-25 wa alo adminitered to 46 age-matched normal control.
Reult
The preoperative VFQ-25 compoite core wa ignificantly lower in the PDR patient (56.3 ± 18.8, mean ± tandard deviation) than in the normal control (85.2 ± 10.3; P < .0001). Vitrectomy ignificantly improved VFQ-25 compoite core (P < .005) and eight of 12 ubcale (P < .05). The preoperative VFQ-25 compoite core ignificantly correlated with preoperative logMAR BCVA in the better-eeing eye (P < .001). The potoperative VFQ-25 compoite core exhibited ignificant correlation with potoperative logMAR BCVA in the wore-eeing eye (P < .0001) a well a the better-eeing eye (P < .0001). imilar ignificant correlation were alo oberved between the VFQ-25 compoite core and letter contrat enitivity.
Concluion
Vitrectomy for PDR ignificantly improve VR-QOL. The current tudy quantitatively indicate that VR-QOL in PDR patient depend on viual acuity and contrat enitivity in the better-eeing eye preoperatively and in both the better-eeing and wore-eeing eye potoperatively.
