  • Abstract
    Purpoe To explore the aociation between the conumption of fruit and vegetable and the preence of glaucoma. Deign Cro-ectional cohort tudy. Method In a ample of 1,155 women located in multiple center in the United tate, glaucoma pecialit diagnoed glaucoma in at leat one eye by aeing optic nerve head photograph and 76-point uprathrehold creening viual field. Conumption of fruit and vegetable wa aeed uing the Block Food Frequency Quetionnaire. The relationhip between elected fruit and vegetable conumption and glaucoma wa invetigated uing adjuted logitic regreion model. Reult Among 1,155 women, 95 (8.2%) were diagnoed with glaucoma. In adjuted analyi, the odd of glaucoma rik were decreaed by 69% (odd ratio [OR], 0.31; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.11 to 0.91) in women who conumed at leat one erving per month of green collard and kale compared with thoe who conumed fewer than one erving per month, by 64% (OR, 0.36; 95% CI, 0.17 to 0.77) in women who conumed more than two erving per week of carrot compared with thoe who conumed fewer than one erving per week, and by 47% (OR, 0.53; 95% CI, 0.29 to 0.97) in women who conumed at leat one erving per week of canned or dried peache compared with thoe who conumed fewer than one erving per month. Concluion A higher intake of certain fruit and vegetable may be aociated with a decreaed rik of glaucoma. More tudie are needed to invetigate thi relationhip.
