Abstract
Purpoe
To ae the role of mucular degeneration, we evaluated the correlation between ptoi everity and levator mucle function.
Deign
Retropective cohort tudy.
Method
The medical record of 136 patient (53 men and 83 women; mean age, 67 year) with acquired blepharoptoi were reviewed for levator function (LF), margin reflex ditance (MRD), age, and gender. Multivariate linear regreion wa performed for tatitical analyi.
Reult
A ignificant correlation (P < .001) wa een between MRD (mean, 1.0 + 1.0 mm; range, −3.0 to 3.0 mm) and LF (mean, 15.0 + 1.0 mm; range, 11.0 to 20.0 mm). On average, a 0.5-mm reduction in LF wa oberved for each 1.0-mm decreae in MRD. Thi wa independent to other variable aeed.
Concluion
In patient with involutional blepharoptoi, a directly proportional decreae in levator function and eyelid height wa oberved. Thi may implicate an abnormality of the levator mucle itelf a a contributing factor in the development of involutional blepharoptoi.
