Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine individual rik factor for the development of potoperative complication after pediatric cataract urgery in the firt 18 month of life.
Deign
Interventional, conecutive cae erie.
Method
We retropectively reviewed the record of 71 eye of 46 children who underwent urgery for congenital cataract within the firt 18 month of life. A limbal approach bimanual len apiration, poterior capulorrhexi, and anterior vitrectomy without intraocular len implantation wa performed in all children. We examined the interrelationhip of operative and potoperative complication with other variable uch a patient age, family hitory, or ocular abnormalitie. The mean follow-up period wa 39 month.
Reult
The mot frequent potoperative complication were late-onet open-angle glaucoma (10.8%) and vitreou hemorrhage (10.8%), wherea early-onet glaucoma (4.6%) wa le common. econdary cataract wa oberved in even eye (9.2%). We determined a family hitory of aphakic glaucoma in firt-degree relative (P = .007) a well a cataract urgery in the firt three month of life (P = .039) and nuclear cataract (P = .0009) to be trong predictor of late-onet glaucoma. econdary cataract formation wa aociated trongly with lenectomy in the firt five month of life. The diagnoi of potoperative hemorrhage wa aociated ignificantly with the preence of peritent fetal vaculature (P < .0001).
Concluion
Patient with preoperative predictor at preentation uch a young age at the time of urgery, a family hitory of aphakic glaucoma, nuclear cataract, or peritent fetal vaculature yndrome offer a clear target for extenive potoperative care after congenital cataract urgery.
