Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate the ue of the Femtec femtoecond (f) laer for penetrating keratoplaty (PK) in the treatment of corneal dieae. Deign Propective, nonrandomized clinical tudy. Method Nine eye of nine patient underwent urgery for PK. Five had peudophakic bullou keratopathy, three had Fuch dytrophy, and one preented in a keratoconu patient. A Femtec (20/10 PerfectViion; GmbH, Heidelberg, Germany) f laer wa ued to create penetrating cut on donor and recipient cornea. All patient were evaluated for uncorrected viual acuity (UCVA), bet pectacle-corrected viual acuity (BCVA), pachymetry, topography, and endothelial cell denity (ECD). canning electron microcopy (EM) wa performed on corneal tiue after urgery. Reult All eye were treated uccefully without intraoperative complication. The mean follow-up wa 6 ± 3 month. At the lat potoperative examination mean BCVA wa 20/69 and there wa a ignificant improvement (P = .08) in both UCVA and BCVA. Mean atigmatim wa 2.9 ± 1.2 diopter. Mean ECD wa 1194 ± 465 cell/mm2 with a mean cell lo after urgery of 49.8% ± 19.8%. EM diplayed mooth rectilinear cut margin and minor remaining tiue bridge. One patient preented a retinal detachment three month after urgery that wa uccefully treated and two ubject howed an allograft rejection. Concluion Ue of the Femtec f laer wa effective and afe to perform PK. hort-term viual reult and refractive reult are analogou to conventional PK or other f laer–aited PK tudie. Longer-term follow-up of additional cae i neceary to preciely quantify the endothelial cell lo after f urgery.
