Abstract :
Purpoe To compare the viion-related quality of life (VR QOL) after rhegmatogenou retinal detachment (RD) urgery with that of normal control and to invetigate the relationhip between the VR QOL and viual function after urgery for RD. Deign Propective, conecutive, comparative cae erie. Method The 25-Item National Eye Intitute Viual Function Quetionnaire (VFQ-25) wa elf-adminitered by 51 RD patient at ix month after urgery. Among the patient with RD, 33 underwent par plana vitrectomy and 18 received cleral buckling. We examined the logarithm of the minimum angle of reolution (logMAR) bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA), contrat enitivity with the CV-1000E (Vector Viion Co, Greenville, Ohio, UA), and low-contrat viual acuity (VA) with the CV-1000LanC10% (Vector Viion Co). From the data obtained by CV-1000E, the area under the log contrat enitivity function (AULCF) wa calculated. The VFQ-25 alo wa adminitered to the 46 age-matched normal control. Reult The VFQ-25 compoite core and the ubcale aociated with near activitie, mental health, dependency, and peripheral viion were ignificantly lower in the RD group than in the normal control (P < .05). The VFQ-25 compoite core ignificantly correlated with AULCF (r = 0.354; P < .05) and low-contrat VA (r = −0.475; P < 0.001), wherea there wa no correlation between the VFQ-25 compoite core and logMAR BCVA (r = 0.172; P = .229). Concluion The VR QOL i ignificantly impaired in patient after urgery for RD. The diturbance in VR QOL wa ignificantly aociated with deterioration of potoperative contrat enitivity.
