Abstract :
Purpoe
To examine the ultratructural correlate of pectral-domain optical coherence tomography (D-OCT) finding in patient with vitreomacular traction (VMT).
Deign
Obervational cae erie.
Method
Retropective analyi of ix eye of conecutive patient who underwent vitrectomy urgery for VMT wa performed in thi ingle-center, noncomparative tudy. One patient had a concurrent macular hole. Preoperative aement included D-OCT examination with 3-dimenional image recontruction. During urgery the vitreou cone wa diected from the vitreou body uing cior, then removed from the urface of the retina with a combination of harp diection and peeling, and ubequently ubmitted for hitologic and tranmiion electron microcopic proceing.
Reult
D-OCT howed prominent vitreal-foveal adheion in all ix eye. Each eye had an epiretinal membrane (ERM) under the detached perifoveal poterior vitreou detachment. In all eye thi ERM appeared to coure up the cone of attached vitreou and along the back urface of the poterior vitreou face. Ultratructural analyi howed fibrocellular proliferation in the vitreou pecimen in all ix cae, which included retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cell (five eye), fibrocyte (four eye), and macrophage (three eye).
Concluion
The adheion between the vitreou and fovea in vitreomacular traction yndrome i accompanied by fibrocellular proliferation along the expoed urface of the inner retina and the poterior urface of the vitreou. Thi fibrocellular proliferation may augment the adheion between the vitreou and fovea, and may account for the prominent OCT ignal een along the poterior urface of the vitreou in thee cae.
