Abstract :
Purpoe To report the initial experience and afety profile of 23-gauge par plana vitrectomy (PPV) in eye undergoing vitreoretinal urgery. Deign Retropective, multicenter, conecutive, interventional cae erie. Method The incluion criteria for thi tudy included eye that underwent primary, 23-gauge PPV for variou indication including, but not limited to, epiretinal membrane, nonclearing vitreou hemorrhage, idiopathic macular hole, and rhegmatogenou retinal detachment (RD), and potoperative follow-up of at leat 12 week. Excluion criteria included hitory of prior vitrectomy, glaucoma filtration urgery, or adminitration of ga at expanile concentration. Main outcome meaure included bet-corrected nellen viual acuity (VA), intraocular preure (IOP), intraoperative complication, and potoperative complication. Reult Ninety-two patient met the incluion criteria. The overall VA improved from 20/238 (range, 20/25 to hand motion [HM]) preoperatively to 20/82 (range, 20/20 to HM) potoperatively (P < .001). Each urgical indication experienced a tatitically ignificant VA improvement. Intraoperative complication included retinal tear oberved in two eye (2.2%). clerotomy uture were required intraoperatively in two eye (2.2%). Potoperative complication included potoperative day 1 hypotony in ix eye (6.5%), a retinal tear in one eye (1.1%), and a recurrent RD in one eye (1.1%). No cae of endophthalmiti were oberved. Concluion Intraoperative and potoperative complication were rare in thi erie of 23-gauge vitrectomy. Potoperative day 1 hypotony wa the mot common complication oberved. All cae of potoperative hypotony reolved at potoperative week 1 without intervention. Retinal tear or detachment wa an uncommon complication in the intraoperative and potoperative etting. Potoperative endophthalmiti wa not noted in thi cae erie.
